is baja safe?

The newly issued U.S. State Department Travel Advisory clearly states that there are no U.S. government restrictions for travel in Baja California Sur, which includes the tourist areas of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, and La Paz.  This underscores our core belief that Los Cabos today is a safe and secure destination. This decision further fuels our commitment to dedicate all resources to ensuring safety in our destination and sustaining our impressive double-digit wave of growth as a world-class destination of choice.

The tourism industry is living in a new reality where security is top of mind for every traveler – we understand that this is critical to our success as a thriving destination.

Since the original U.S. State Department Travel Warning that was issued in August 2017, the destination's response has been swift, aggressive and multipronged. As security is and always has been our utmost priority, we have invested more than $47 million to take our efforts to the next level, intensifying security measures across the board.

In the subsequent months, we’ve been aggressively executing against our five-point security action plan by working closely with our tourism partners and all levels of law enforcement to ensure the safety of all visitors and tourists in Los Cabos.

Following the original travel advisory, the private and public sector in Los Cabos have strengthened their relationship and formed a collaborative committee including representatives from the Hotels Association, Business Council and the municipal state and federal government with the goal of increasing the dialogue with the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC).

The decision to clearly state that there are no restrictions to travel to Los Cabos and the state as a whole is predominantly a result of this effort. As a testament, OSAC celebrated in February 2018 their yearly meeting in Los Cabos, hosting the US Ambassador to Mexico, Roberta S. Jacobson, please find the following video :
